Selection guide

Water-resistant does not mean fully waterproof

A visually continuous zipper surface does not mean water cannot enter through stitching, chain engagement, ends or open-end components. Protection is a system issue.

Define what must be resisted

Brief splashes, sustained rain and hydrostatic pressure are different targets. A real scenario is more useful than the single word waterproof.

Define sample state

New, laundered, abraded or cold-condition samples can behave differently and should be written into the plan.

Inspect ends and sewing

Many failures occur at needle holes, ends or placket transitions rather than the center of the zipper.

Preserve the evidence chain

Product documents, sample ID, conditions, photos and reports should correspond to the final order specification.

Frequently asked questions

Can a water-resistant zipper be used on rainwear?

It can be a candidate, but rainwear compliance depends on the complete construction and target test.

Why retest after laundering?

Laundering and bending can affect the surface and seam condition, making retesting more representative of the life cycle.

Can one universal waterproof value be published?

No. Different ranges, constructions and test methods cannot be mixed; use formal product documentation.
